Nairobi women caucus fault Ruto, Raila for scuttling Sakaja's impeachment
Led by Martha Miyandazi, the caucus expressed disappointment with Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto for interfering with the roles of ward representatives.
Nairobi Women’s Caucus has criticised President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga for blocking the impeachment bid against Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Led by Martha Miyandazi, the caucus expressed disappointment with Odinga and President Ruto for interfering with the roles of ward representatives. Miyandazi said the MCAs should be allowed to operate independently without external interference.

The caucus' statement came as tensions at City Hall eased following a seven-hour meeting between Sakaja, MCAs, and party leaders brokered by President Ruto.
"As women, drawn from various constituencies in Nairobi, we're very dissatisfied with Odinga and President Ruto's interference with the governance of Nairobi City County," said Miyandazi.
Caucus coordinator Saumu Saidi said Sakaja has shown an inability to lead and called for his replacement by a woman who understands the challenges facing Nairobi residents.
"For him to be saved by top party bosses, it's clear that he's incompetent. We urge that he gets replaced by a woman who understands the challenges Nairobi County residents are undergoing," said Saidi.
Nairobi Deputy Minority Leader Waithera Chege, who attended the MCAs' meeting, said the sessions focused on presenting a structured list of challenges rather than debate.
"We had our second meeting yesterday with our UDA party leader. We explained to him the issues and challenges that we are going through at City Hall... On Wednesday, it wasn't a day of discussions and debate; it was a day of tabling the list. Sakaja's work was to tell us from the list what he's capable of doing within the 60 days," said Chege.
Chege confirmed Sakaja’s commitment to clear debts and complete stalled projects under the Ward Development Fund. "All existing debts under WDP must be cleared, and all the projects under WDP must be completed."
During the meeting with President Ruto, MCAs demanded that Sakaja address issues, including the garbage crisis and corruption at City Hall.
The MCAs also raised concerns about pending bursaries, unresolved Ward Development Fund debts and stalled county projects.
They also raised complaints about poor access to the governor, blocked consultations and alleged intimidation by county staff.
